5 Feared Dead in Another Twin Bomb Blasts in Maiduguri

boko blastsAs the military continues in their countdown to the December dealine to flush out Boko Haram from the North East, members of the insurgent Islamic group have continued in their destructive streak.

Thursday evening two suicide bombers who came in bicycles detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in a mosque where worshippers were praying killing at least 14 people. The explosion occurred in the mosque in Mulai area in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state about 6.30pm. No fewer than 25 persons died in the blasts but NEMA officials placed the toll at 14.

Sources say that the first blast occurred inside the mosque and as the worshippers ran for safety, the second blast went off outside the mosque.

This made it the second blast in a space of five days in Maiduguri which has remained the theatre of the war against insurgency. In the midst of the explosions the military have continued to sound positive about the imminent end of the insurgency, insisting that the resort to hitting soft targets by the insurgents is a sign of their weakening ranks.
