Delta to hold two-day food festival to boost tourism —Commissioner

The Delta Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Emmanuel Chinye, says the state will hold a two-day food festival in November, to boost the state’s tourism sector.

Chinye made the disclosure at the annual Ministerial Briefing of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, organised by the Ministry of Information on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said that the festival would feature full cooking competition of various traditional cuisines from the different ethnic groups in the state.

The commissioner said that the festival was aimed at showcasing the different rich delicacies of all ethnic groups in the state’

He said that such delicacies would help to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state.

Chinye also said that the ministry would also organise a four-day cultural carnival, which would showcase various cultural displays from the 25 local government areas of the state.

According to him, the carnival will feature various traditional dances, boat regatta among others.

On some of the achievements of the ministry, the commissioner said that the ministry recently conducted a familiarisation tour of tourism sites in the state.

Chinye said that the tour was geared towards having an accurate data of the state’s tourism potentials and assets for development, promotion and marketing.

“Some officers from the ministry embarked on eight days study tour of Lagos and Cross River states respectively, to understudy the intricacies and selling points behind the success story of tourism development in the two states, to replicate same in Delta.

“The tour was also aimed at establishing long-term bilateral relationship through staff training and exchange of programmes for the overall development of tourism in the state,” he said.
