FG is Working Towards Quick Completion of all Lagos Roads – Controller

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr Adedamola Kuti, says that the Federal Ministry of Works was working toward speedy completion of all road projects in Lagos.

Kuti told the media in Lagos that massive progress had been achieved on Section one of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reconstruction project which extends from Ojota in Lagos to Sagamu Interchange and it is being handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, while Section two being constructed by RCC, extends from Sagamu Interchange to Ibadan.

The controller said that it was difficult to ascribe a percentage to the construction done so far because additional works were recently added to the project, saying that work was progressing fast. The most important thing is that the contractor is on ground and is working. Right now, Julius Berger is working on the 4km stretch that should be completed any moment from now and that is around Kilometre 21.

“Work has already commenced at the section very close to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). It has also been opened to traffic. For now, the 4km stretch being worked on by Julius Berger around Kilometre 20 and 21, should be completed within this month and that section would be opened to traffic,’’ he said.

He noted that the Lagos-Badagry Expressway project awarded to Messrs CGJ Nigeria Ltd. had just been awarded by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and work would soon begin from Agbara Junction toward Badagry to Seme border.

“The project was just awarded last week. Hopefully before the end of this year, there should be an official flag off of the project, ” Kuti said.

Speaking on the ongoing Lagos-Abeokuta-Ota Expressway rehabilitation project, he said that a meeting was ongoing with the contractor to resolve some design issues that slowed down the project.

“Some of the sections of the road were not originally designed while design is ongoing on some of them. There are certain things that you may not physically see on site but work is seriously going on,’’ Kuti said.

He explained that Julius Berger was concentrating efforts on the project from Ota towards Abeokuta due to ongoing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane construction by the state government from Abule Egba to Oshodi.

On the Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonshoki Reconstruction project, the controller said that the project had been awarded and would be officially flagged off on Nov. 17.
