Jonathan Sacks IGP Abba, Appoints Arase

Suleiman-Abba3President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked the Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba.

His dismissal was announced Tuesday by Presidential Media Adviser, Dr. Reuben Abati, and it is with immediate effect.

Abati, who announced this via his Twitter handle did not however give reason for the sudden sack, barely a month to the end of the Jonathan administration.

According to the tweet, Abba has been directed to handover to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase, in Acting capacity.

“President Jonathan sacks IGP Suleiman Abba, appoints DIG Solomon Arase as Acting IGP with immediate effect,” Abati tweeted.

Until his appointment as Mr. Abba’s replacement, Mr. Arase was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

Mr. Arase holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Law, as well as Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies.

He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.

Arase was earlier tipped to succeed former IGP MD Abubakar. He was described by his colleagues as a top cop with superior intelligence strategy than Abba, but he lost out at the last minute.
