Lagos Ports: Senators divided over Messrs OMLS operations

Apapa Port, Lagos

Nigerian Senate has halted the suspension of Messrs OMLS Limited operations at the Safe Anchorage Area (SAA) of the Lagos ports, saying that the Nigeria Navy lacks the capacity to secure Nigeria Waterways.

Among other resolutions on Wednesday’s plenary, the Senate also stated OMSL should be allowed to continue its operation until such a time when a better and more cost effective system is put in place by the government.

These resolutions followed the presentation of a report by Chairman of the the Joint Committees on Navy, Marine Transport and Finance, Senator George Sekibo, investigating the activities of OMLS Limited and other security agencies at the Lagos ports.

In the report, Senator Sekibo submitted that the Navy be properly funded to enable it procure needed vessels to clear the over one hundred and fifty (150) vessels deficit without depending on Private Maritime Logistics Support Companies (PMLSC).
