Nasarawa residents laud FERMA over construction of drainage systems

Some residents of Nasarawa State have commended the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for constructing a drainage system for the Kokona-Keffi highway.

The residents, who spoke in separate interviews with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, said that the importance of the drainage channels in the area could never be overemphasised.

A NAN correspondent, who visited Sabo Gida in Kokona and Angwan Lambu in Keffi Local Government Areas of the state where construction works are underway, said that the construction works were at various stages.

The residents also lauded FERMA for rehabilitating some roads across the state and called for the sustenance of the intervention.

They said that the road rehabilitation projects would not only boost the socio-economic activities of the citizens but would also reduce road accidents.

Mr Abu Isah, a resident of Keffi, said that the construction of roads and drainage channels would boost the socio-economic development of the state.

He said that it would also help in improving the health and the living standards of the people.

“It is in the light of this that I want to laud FERMA for the rehabilitation of roads and the construction of drainage channels for the Kokona-Keffi road,’’ he said.

Isah, however, urged the people of the state to live in peace with one another, irrespective of factors such as ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

Mrs Grace Haruna, a resident of Kokona, also commended FERMA for the construction of the drainage channel for the Kokona-Keffi highway.

“We commend FERMA for rehabilitating the roads, as the project will go a long way in boosting the transport system of our area,’’ she said.

Another resident, Mr Bulus Moses, said that the water channels would go a long way in curbing the menace of erosion in the area.

“We are grateful to the Federal Government, through FERMA, for constructing drainage channels in Sabon Gida and Kokona so as to ensure free flow of water and control erosion.

“The project will boost the standard of living of the people,” he said.

Moses called on the citizens of the state to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State to enable their administrations to succeed.
