PDP Knocks Buhari, Says President’s Order to Probe Rivers Tribunal is ‘Medicine After Death’

olisa-metuh-2The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari, this time describing the President’s order for investigation of the activities of the judges of the Rivers State elections and petitions tribunal as too late, a case of administering medicine after the patient is dead. The publicity secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh, said the order by Mr. President is ill-timed, belated and of no consequence.

Metuh said that various petitions with evidence of telephone conversations between tribunal judges, their aides and APC chieftains were sent to Mr. President over five months ago when the matters were still at the lower courts, but unfortunately nothing was done to address those issues, and the judges and their cronies had their way at the various tribunals.

An angry Metuh told reporters that after the rulings by the tribunals, and the cases appealed by the PDP candidates, the PDP got more evidence and sent further petitions to Mr. President. Again, absolutely nothing was done by the President. He expressed shock at the sudden change of mind by Mr. President.

” I’m surprised the President is now ordering a probe when the National Assembly and House of Assembly matters had all been concluded by the appellate courts. And all elections annulled in favour of the APC. This probe is of no consequence, as the outcome of such probes won’t reinstate the victims of this rape and subversion of justice by the tribunal judges. Will the probe restore their mandate? Of course not.

“That’s medicine after death. I’m glad the President made mention of conflicting judgments arising from same courts. So if the Supreme Court finally says the card reader has no life, and can’t be the basis to annul elections, what then becomes the fate of those lawmakers whose elections have been annulled due to failed card readers? How do you remedy such injustice?

“By the way, if the Supreme Court supports the card reader, it also means 20 APC governors will be sacked by the Supreme Court, giving that the card reader failed across the country.

“However, we believe the Supreme Court will save the face of the judiciary and rescue it from this mess”, he said.

In recent court rulings the PDP seemed to have lost a lot of ground in Rivers State which had one of the most controversial elections.
