PVC Racket: NIS Adamawa Command Arrests 280 Illegal Aliens

david ParradangThe Adamawa Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 280 illegal aliens at various designated collection points for the Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

This is coming as the service has denied withdrawing its personnel from the border out-posts around the Nigerian North Western axis.

The Comptroller of the service in the state, Mr Ubi Ikpi, disclosed this to our Correspondent in Lagos. He added that the arrest was part of the command’s renewed efforts to rid the state of illegal aliens and enhance security.

However, a source revealed that most of the arrests were made at various designated points for PVC collection in the State.

“It is pertinent that we rid Adamawa of miscreants because it is very possible they can compound the security situation in the country since they don’t have valid papers and identifiable places of abode,” Ikpi said.

He said those arrested were from neighbouring African countries, adding that they would be documented and screened for subsequent deportation.

He urged the general public to support and cooperate with the command by identifying and reporting illegal aliens and criminals to the appropriate authorities.

The comptroller commended the synergy among the various security agencies in the state and called for sustenance of the partnership.

Meanwhile, Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service have denied that the Federal Government had ordered the closure of her border posts in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Also reacting to the news report’ Ikpi, said there was nothing like that. “As we are talking now, my colleague from that border just called me and we spoke for almost five minutes.”

He added that, the border was well operational and carrying out its duties as designated in the constitution. APC spokesperson, Lai Muhammed, had on Monday said that both the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Nigerian Customs Service have closed their border posts in Kebbi and Sokoto states.
