August 13, 2025

Lagos has reinforced its status as Africa’s esports powerhouse with the successful hosting of GamrX 2025, the continent’s biggest competitive gaming tournament.

The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lekan Fatodu, attended the GamrX 2025 event at the Landmark event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, which had over 1000 Gamers participating for titles such as Street Fighter, Red Bull Kumite, EA FC, Mortal Kombat, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile for a multimillion-naira prize pool.

Mr. Fatodu disclosed that the State Government threw its weight behind the fourth edition of the GamrX Africa E-sports tournament, which attracted Gamers from nine African countries competing for a total cash prize of N15m, because the event presents an opportunity for the government to tap into the huge market of E-sports.

He commended the sportsmanship of the participants and lauded the Organisers of the event, saying “On behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we want to appreciate you for your investment in creativity, investment and commitment to passion; for your investment in creating an atmosphere, a unique ecosystem of friendliness, sports and great achievements”.

“This is Lagos. It’s a pleasure to be here today, it is amazing. As a state, we will continue to support, to ensure that this event becomes bigger. Currently, we have nine countries that have been part of this. In the coming year, we want to have a situation where we will double the number, and it becomes a reference point in the global gaming ecosystem.

“Thank you very much. You can make it happen. The state can make it happen. Gaming Africa can make it happen. Congratulations on a very successful event at the end of the day”
