Man arraigned over alleged abduction of 22-year-old girl

Police on Monday arraigned one Eric Chisom in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly abducting a 22-year old girl.

The defendant, 38, was alleged to have conspired to commit felony to wit: abduction.

Insp John Iberedem, the Prosecutor,  said that the defendant on June 12, committed the offence at Olaoluwa Street, Ladilak, Bariga area of Lagos State.

He explained that the defendant abducted the girl by keeping her in his house without her parents’ knowledge.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 268 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 268 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, stipulates seven years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of abduction of a female of any age to cause her to be married or to have sexual intercourse or detains her against her will.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ruling on a bail application, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of  N100,000 with one reliable surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must be gainfully employed with proof of tax payment and a verifiable address.

She adjourned the case until July 24 for hearing. (NAN)
