A retired Navy Commander, Tunde Giwa-Daramola, has urged the youth to participate in the ongoing voter registration to be able to vote in the 2019 General Elections.

Giwa-Daramola, who is aspiring for the Akoko North/East Federal Constituency seat, said that obtaining Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) through voter registration would empower the youth to vote for candidates of their choices.

Giwa-Daramola gave the advice when a delegation of Akoko youths in Ondo State visited him to declare support for him, according to a statement he issued in Lagos.

“This is the right time for Akoko youths to vote for reliable candidates who will protect their interest at the state and federal levels.

“The first step is to ensure that you all register in the ongoing exercise in order to cast your votes come 2019.
“If we want to improve the situation of our roads, power and security in Akoko land, our youths must be actively involved in the electoral process,’’ he said.

Giwa-Daramola urged the youth to shun violence and any other acts that could endanger lives and disturb the peace of the state.

He said that peaceful conduct by the youth would promote free, fair and credible elections, and develop Nigeria’s democracy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Giwa-Daramola, a former Commodore of the Nigerian Navy Sailing Club, is aspiring for the seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections for Feb. 16, 2019.
The governorship and state assembly elections will hold on March 2, 2019.
