Man, 56, docked over alleged theft of precious stones worth N27m

A 56-year old man, Alaremu Adebowale, was on Tuesday, arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of precious stones valued at N27 million.

The defendant who resides at Kajola Idi-Obi, is being charged with stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP Tunji Olaniyi told the court that Adebowale committed the offence on Dec. 3, 2024, at Akoya Village, Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Olaniyi said that the defendant stole 200 tonnes of Mica precious stones valued N27 million, belonging to the complainant, Olaogun Mojeed.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr. M. Mudashiru admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties who must be his blood relations.

Mudashiru further said that the sureties should present valid means of identification such as driver’s licence or voter card, and that one of them must have up to N5 million in their bank account .

He adjourned the matter until Feb. 11, for hearing.(NAN)
