No fewer than 16 ships have berthed at Lagos ports, awaiting discharge of petroleum products, fertiliser, gas and other bulk cargoes.

The vessels are currently at Lekki, Tin Can Island and Apapa ports, handling strategic imports for industrial and consumer use.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) disclosed this in its latest shipping position report released on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to the authority, the arriving vessels are laden with petrol, fuel oil, naphtha, crude oil, bulk gas and urea.

The report also showed that 34 additional ships were expected at Apapa, Lekki and Tin Can Island ports.

The vessels are scheduled to arrive between May 6 and May 18 with petroleum products, food supplies and other merchandise.

According to the authority, incoming cargoes include buckwheat, containers, fresh fish, crude oil and bulk wheat.

Other consignments listed include petrol, base oil, bitumen, gasoline, bulk soya, diesel and general cargo.

“Shipping activities across the ports remain active, with both liquid and dry cargoes arriving steadily,” the authority stated.

The report further revealed that 23 ships are currently discharging cargoes at the ports.

The vessels are handling containers, petrol, aviation fuel, crude oil, gypsum, trucks, wheat, urea and fresh fish.

Industry stakeholders said the steady traffic reflected sustained commercial activity across Nigeria’s busiest maritime gateways.
