28 Kebbi indigenes on scholarship depart for Egypt to study Medicine

November 22, 2022

Kebbi has sponsored 28 indigenes to study for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Cairo.

Executive Secretary of the state’s Scholarship Board, Alhaji Sanusi Garba, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday that the students would depart for Egypt on Wednesday.

He said they were part of 57 students carefully selected through interviews in 2021.

“The 28 students comprise 14 females and 14 males. We still have 29 students awaiting the approval of Gov. Atiku Bagudu to proceed to Russia to study.

“This is in addition to the 118 students from Kebbi State currently in their second year studying various Para-medical and engineering courses in India,’’ he said.

Garba urged the students to be good ambassadors of the state in particular and of Nigeria in general and have the fear of God in their educational pursuits.

He commended Gov. Bagudu for the vision and mission in transforming higher education and strengthening manpower capacity in the state.

“The scholarship board appreciates the laudable gesture of the governor for paving the way for youths to prosper intellectually and for his unflinching commitment to youth development.

“We also appreciate the governor for releasing N151million for payment of fees for the 118 students from the state currently studying in India,’’ Garba said. (NAN)
