C’River: Navy hands over 2 suspected military impersonators to police

The Nigerian Navy Shipyard (NNS) VICTORY, says it has handed over two suspected military impersonators to the criminal investigation department of the police in Cross River.

The Spokesman, Lt.-Cdr Suleiman Bala, made the disclosure in a statement to newsmen in Calabar on Monday.

Bala said that the suspects were apprehended on March 10 while dressed in military camouflage, and in possession of fake military identification cards.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects parades himself as a navy lieutenant, and the other as a midshipman.

“They claim to be serving on board Nigerian Navy Ship SAGBAMA. Upon investigation, we recovered additional military-related items such as a jungle hat and a pair of boots,” he said.

The spokesman said that, during investigation, the suspects admitted that the camouflage vest, jungle hat, and boots were purchased while the identity cards were produced by them.

“Today we are handing them over for investigation and possible prosecution, this exercise is in line with extant procedures.
