Police probes suspected murder after body found in University’s swimming pool
The Police Command in Oyo State, has begun investigation into the cause of death of a teenage boy found in the University of Ibadan swimming pool.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.
Olayinka said that information gathered from the institution’s Chief Security Officer revealed that the body of the victim, aged between 14 years and 15 years, was sighted on the surface of the swimming pool in the early hours of Thursday.
The PPRO said that police detectives immediately visited the scene while preliminary investigation revealed blood oozing from the mouth and nose with slight bruises on the nose.
He said that items suspected to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were found close to the pool, and blood stains were also observed within the pavillion area.
Olayinka said that the body was later evacuated to the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and subsequently deposited at the mortuary.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations were ongoing.
