Akwa Ibom: Nimshack auto assembly plant has capacity to produce 1,000 vehicles annually – Official

Sept. 22, 2021

…To roll out first set of commercial vehicles in 2022

Chief Valentine Okorie, Chief Operating Officer, Nimshack Transportation Technologies, says the firm will roll out its first set of commercial vehicles in the first quarter of 2022.

Okorie made the disclosure at an interactive session with newsmen in the premises of the car assembly plant in Ikot Ukap Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom on Tuesday.

He said that when it comes on stream, the plant would have the capacity to produce 1,000 vehicles annually and would generate no fewer than 10,000 jobs.

“The assembly plant will also open up business opportunities for people of the state,” he said.

Okorie commended the Gov. Udom Emmanuel-led government for creating an investment friendly atmosphere.

“I commend the state government for creating the atmosphere for private sector investments to thrive. The government has truly kept its promise to drive industrialisation in the state.

“The government provided land for the siting of the plant, it has also constructed a dedicated power line to feed the automobile plant,” he said.

Okorie stated that the outbreak of COVID-19 delayed the commencement of operations at the plant, which
would facilitate technology transfer and enhance the technical capacities of its local employees.

“We are here to take the automobile industry to another level, our products shall be durable and efficient. We shall also introduce products such as oil filters, fuel filters, car batteries, break pads and so on.

“It is a very large chain that will enthrone technology, through the direct participation of our people,” he said.

The assembly plant is a Public-Private-Partnership investment.(NAN)
