Armed Policemen Takes Over Ekiti State Assembly

Admin November 18, 2014

fayose A detachment of Police Mobile Force, from zone eight Command of the Nigeria Police, Lokoja, has been deployed to provide security at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, following threat by some unidentified persons, to attack the facility.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone “8” Christopher Dega, in a telephone chat, confirmed to our Correspondent that a detachment of Mobile Policemen has been posted to the assembly complex.

“The entire issue is for the security of live and property, in and around the Ekiti State House of Assembly. That is our primary concern. We cannot just sit down and watch. Human life is very sacred and must be treated sacred. People have made threats, and we are aware, so the right thing is to take proactive measure.”

The Police Chief stated that Policemen dispatched to the Assembly complex have been properly briefed. “The Policemen have been properly briefed about what is expected of them there. We are not politicians, we are security personnel and our job is well spelt out in the constitution. We are there to discharge our constitutional duty.”

Report had it that some members of Ekiti State House of Assembly, in Ado Ekiti on Monday allegedly impeached the speaker, Adewale Omirin.

Consequently, one Selenkere Michael, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been detailed to lead the Mobile Policemen to the Assembly complex. The Police are expected to provide security at the Assembly, until when normalcy return.
