People’s Democratic Party PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday signed the peace accord ahead of the 2019 general election.

Atiku’s absence at the signing on Tuesday had left a lot of people wondering as to why he had been absent from the signing on Tuesday but was quoted as saying he wasn’t “officially invited”.

The PDP had said in earlier reports that it was investigating the circumstances behind the “unfortunate communication lapse” between party officials and the National Peace Committee (NPC), the non-governmental organisation that arranged the event, which resulted in Abubakar’s absence.

He said the PDP would visit the NPC office to “fulfil all necessary obligations toward the peace accord ahead of the 2019 general elections”.

He however announced, “Earlier today (Wednesday), I appended my signature to the Peace Accord. I also urged the President to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law.”

Accompanied by Uche Secondus, the PDP National Chairman, Atiku was received by General Abdusalam Abubakar, Chairman of the National Peace Committee.

The NPC earlier said it had sent invitations for the event to all 91 registered parties and the 73 presidential candidates.
