At least 40 illegal gold miners have been shot dead by suspected armed bandits at Bindin village in Maru local government area of Zamfara state, Daily Trust gathered.
Illegal gold mining sites flourish at some villages in Anka and Maru local government area. Armed bandits have been raiding the sites robbing the miners of their belongings.
Daily Trust learnt that the attack occurred on Monday.
The spokesman of the state police command DSP Muhammad Shehu confirmed the attack. He said security operatives were despatched to restore law and order at the affected and other areas. -Daily Trust
