Bombers Hit UniJos, 17 Feared Dead

No fewer than 17 persons were reportedly killed as terrorists hit Jos, North-central Nigeria on Thursday evening.

The two blasts appeared to target students of the University of Jos who just finished the day’s examinations at 6pm, the military and witnesses told AFP.

“There were twin blasts today in Jos,” said Ikedichi Iweha, military spokesman in the Plateau state capital which has been repeatedly attacked by Boko Haram.

He declined to give further details but two witnesses at the scene, including driver Ibrahim Hashidu, told AFP that 17 people had been confirmed dead, with the first explosion killing five people and the second causing 12 deaths.

Eye witnesses confirmed two explosions that It was gathered that one of the explosions occurred at the Pharmacy gate while the second blast followed close to Bauchi park, about 100 meters away from the Bauchi road campus of the University.

Earlier, explosion had occurred in Biu, Borno State killing scores and leaving several others injured

An improvised explosive device was said to have been detonated by a suicide bomber.

Earlier in the day, President Goodluck Jonathan visited some of the towns recently recaptured by Nigerian troops from the Boko Haram insurgents.

The insurgents have recorded heavy casualty recently as troops intensify effort to rid the north east of terrorists’ activities.
