Buhari inaugurates Committee on North East, calls for support

Admin October 27, 2016

PRESIDENT BUHARI INAUGURATE NORTH EAST INITIATIVEPresident Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative CNI chaired by former Defence Minister retired General Theophilus Danjuma.

The inauguration took place inside the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The president said the worst of the Boko Haram insurgents was over, commending the military for their efforts in degrading the terrorists.

He said his administration was committed to addressing the humanitarian crisis in the northeast as well as ensuring the resettlement of the internally displaced persons and rehabilitation of the region.

President Buhari charged the board of the PCNI to discharge its duties with dedication, transparency and accountability.

The president also called on all stakeholders to support the committee.

In his remarks, Danjuma assured that the committee would deliver its mandate with professionalism, transparency and accountability.

He disclosed that the Victims Support Fund (VSF) Committee he chaired under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan had so far received only N23bn out of the N50bn pledged at a fundraising ceremony.

Danjuma said the committee would not want to embarrass the defaulters, appealing to them to redeem their pledges.
