Court Remands 34 Suspects over Illegal Street Trading, Criminality at Alaba Rago

June 11, 2025

A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade Oshodi on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, has ordered the remand of 34 individuals for illegal street trading and alleged criminal activities along the median of the Alaba Rago-Ojo section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The 32 men and two women were apprehended over the weekend during a joint operation by operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

The enforcement drive aimed to reclaim and clear the median of the Alaba Rago-Ojo road, which had been significantly encroached upon by various traders who erected illegal structures.

Among those arrested were individuals suspected of being miscreants who utilised makeshift sheds on the median as hideouts to perpetrate criminal activities in the area.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, reiterated the current administration’s unwavering resolve to enforce environmental laws against all those exhibiting defiant behaviour.

He urged all Lagos residents to uphold minimum standards of decency and contribute to fostering a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.

The accused will remain in prison custody until July 22, 2025.
