Court remands man, 18 for alleged defilement

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Wednesday remanded an 18-year-old man, Nwude Joseph, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 15 year-old girl.

Joseph, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge bothering on defilement and unlawful indecency.

The Chief Magistrate, B.A. Sonuga, however did not take the plea of the suspect.

He adjourned the case until April 10 for legal advice from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on Jan. 17, at Gibson Lesson Centre Owutu, Agric area of Ikorodu.

Isaac said that the suspect defiled the girl by having unlawful canal knowledge of her without her consent.

He also said that the suspect indecently touching her breast and buttocks without her consent.

According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Section 137 and 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for an offender. (NAN)
