Court remands woman for alleged child trafficking

An Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 28- year – old woman, Joy Orban, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly trafficking a-seven day-old baby.

Orban who resides at Mayomi Street, Dutse, Abuja is standing trial for child trafficking.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. L. A Owolabi who did not take the suspect’s plea ordered that she be remanded in correctional centre until Oct. 29, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji told the court that the offence was committed on July 18, at Ojodu Berger, Lagos.

Ademigbuji said that the suspect boarded a night bus from Abuja to Lagos.

He said that during the journey, one of the passengers questioned the defendant on why she was traveling with a baby such age.

He said that the passenger who was not satisfied and convinced by the suspect’s answer, alerted the police when they go to berger.

The prosecutor said that during interrogation, the suspect told the police that she was given the seven days old baby girl by a woman in Abuja to give to another woman in Lagos.

Ademigbuji said that the police are working hard to get other accomplices.

He added that the offence contravened section 276 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
