Critical assignment: Buhari orders security chiefs to check killing

Admin February 12, 2018

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday held a crucial meeting with the Security Chiefs.  The meat of the closed door meeting was a review of the crumbling security situation in the country. The President was said to have expressed grave concern at the bad image the ugly security trend is giving to his administration.

An angry Buhari was said to have given the respective security chiefs to stand up to the situation which he said was threatening the unity and peace of the nation. In recent weeks, persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have had a free reign in the North especially in North central zone where they had clashed with host communities and farmers resulting in a harvest of deaths.

Inside Aso Rock sources said the President gave a pep talk to the security chiefs and urged them to contain the spate of killings.

Those in attendance are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff Mallam Abba Kyari, National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno Rtd, Minister of Defence Brig Gen Mansur Dan Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Interior Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, DG DSS Lawan Daura, DG NIA, Ahmed Rufai, Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai, representatives of Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Training and Operation, Major Gen A Mohammed, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, among others.
