DBI, Others Grace Workshop on Blockchain Technology: List Gains

The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), on Wednesday, 20th April, in Abuja, participated at a workshop on Blockchain Technology organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR).

The workshop was tagged: Preceding the conference on: “Distributed Ledger Technologies (Block Chain) Ecosystem, Decentralization and Adoption Methods as Growth Plan for the Telecom Sector – Development of Bold Bockchain Strategy for Nigeria.”

Dr. Abdulkareem Oloyode from the University of Ilorin gave an overview of distributed Ledger Technology (Blockchain) ecosystem. He stated that blockchain technology could be used to reduce costs, speed up transactions and improve data security for financial institutions, health care providers, businesses and more.

Oloyode added that, although blockchain technology hasn’t yet been widely adopted, it has the potential to dramatically change the way we do business by offering a trusted, cryptographic system for exchanging information.

Director General of BPSR,  Dr. Dasuki Arabi, in his remark explained the public sector imperatives with respect to emerging technology to improve service delivery. He stressed that Emerging Technologtes are already having a positive impact around the world hence the need for Nigerian public sector to improve on their deployment in the workplace.

He added that governments at various levels (local, state, federal) are realizing the benefits of this technology.

He however noted that many of these applications remain in the test phase but projected that their significance in the public sector will only increase in the coming years.

In his words: “Quality service delivery is the ‘reason’ for public service. Public servants must recognize that they have customers. They should also note that “service is what they offer themselves for and service is what the people are entitled to expect from them”

The conference was graced by different telecommunications organizations , public and private organizations.

The President/CEO of DBI, Prof. Muhammad Ajiya was accompanied  by a board member, Dr Niran Oyekale,  Head,  Public Affairs Unit Mr. Akin Ogunlade  and Temidayo Babansulaimon.
