Defence Space Administration Seeks Upskilling Partnership With Digital Bridge Institute

A delegation of the Defence Space Administration (DSA) led by Commodore A.R Akinwale accompanied by four principal officers and nine directors of DSA paid a courtesy visit to Digital Bridge Institute, DBI,  recently and sought for collaboration with the ICT skills building agency.

The President of the DBI, Prof. Mohammed Ajiya represented by the Head, Corporate Services Ms Viola Askia-Usoro welcomed  Commodore Akinwale to DBI

Ms. Askia-Usoro in her welcome remarks  stated that DBI is open to collaborations and gave a brief history of DBI and the purpose of its creation.

She noted that DBI is the training arm of the Nigerian Communications Commission mainly for up skilling human capital development in the field of telecommunications and ICT.

She noted that DBI stands out because it has campuses in the six (6) geopolitical zones of the country with standard infrastructure.

DBI is the only Centre of Excellence of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and also the second Centre of Excellence in West Africa.

She further explained that, on behalf of NCC, DBI offers training to tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, Secondary Schools and all those schools coordinated by NBTE,  CCE and also NUC.

Ms. Viola Askia-Usoro stated that NCC solely sponsors this programme and a lot of institutions have benefitted from it.

DSA’s Capt. I.M Godei  introduced the Head of the delegation, Commodore AR Akinwale who gave a brief history of their agency. He stated that  they paid DBI a visit to strengthen the cordial relationship and collaboration between DSA and DBI and to utilise DBI’s resource for their capacity building and training.

The Commodore affirmed that he has been briefed and read about DBI capacity building in the area of human development in ICT, telecoms and training, he said they were happy by what they saw during the facilities tour of DBI.

He said DSA needs training capacity development for their staff and operations.

Ms. Viola Askia-Usoro concluded the meeting by appreciating everyone and also agreed  that  both Institutes can achieve a lot together and assured that the DBI has what it takes to take care of their needs

She said the DBI is looking forward to a laudable collaboration with the DSA

Ms. Viola Askia-Usoro informed them of the well equipped laboratory donated by Huawei Technology which  are capable of being used for research and other related matters in the ICT industry

The members of the delegation asked various questions relating to their needs and aspirations, and the DBI in-house experts gave a well articulated answers to the satisfaction of the visitors.

The DBI’s management team in attendance at the meeting were, Ms. Viola Askia-Usoro, Head of Corporate Services, lnstitute Secretary Ms. Tonia Ansa-Otudor, Head, Learning and Development Mrs Ngozi Nwoche, Head, Finance department,  Mrs Peace Okere, Mr. Soji Fagbemi of BD&CS, Head IT, Mr. Nwanze Okonkwo and Head, Public Affairs Unit Mr Akin Ogunlade.
