Delta government on Thursday in Asaba urged residents to turn out en-masse to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the March 11 governorship election.

Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu made the appeal on behalf of Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa at a media briefing in Asaba.

He said that following the outcome of the Feb, 25 presidential election, it was important for Delta to focus on ensuring that the PDP retained power in the state.

“We want to urge our people not to lose hope in our democracy. The challenge of the last presidential election is a different ball game.

“We equally know that our people are not happy with the outcome of the presidential election, but we must sustain and consolidate on our achievements in the state.

“We appeal to our people to put the experience behind them while our principals are taking steps to recover the mandate we believe was stolen,’’ Aniagwu said.

The commissioner called on Deltans to keep faith with what he called the “developmental trajectory’’ of the Gov. Okowa administration in the state in past seven-and-half years.

He said the state government was convinced that the best way to sustain the development was for the people to vote the Sherrif/Onyeme governorship ticket of the PDP in the state.

According to him, any other ticket as far as the governorship election in the state is concerned may not be in the interest of the people of Delta.

Aniagwu also refuted speculations by opposition camps that the Okowa administration was planning to access new loan facility.

“On behalf of the state government, I make it categorically clear that the Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa administration is not seeking any additional loan.

“The loan we took before was more or less a bridging finance which was on account of the funds we were expecting from the Federal Government shortfalls in remittances accruable to our state,’’ Aniagwu stressed. (NAN)
