Dickson takes PDP peace resolution to IBB in Minaa

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, recently burdened with the responsibility of reconciling the warring members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has taken the matter to the court of former Head of State, Gen Ibrahim Babangida. Both men met behind closed doors in Minna, the capital of Niger State on Wednesday.

Insiders said the governor briefed Babangida on the progress of his reconciliatory committee and the challenges they have been encountering in making sure that all nerves within the party are calmed.

Although Dickson refused to tell newsmen the outcome of his meeting, but insiders said the meeting dwelt mainly on the PDP crisis with the governor soliciting the hand of the former military President to restore peace within the PDP. IBB is seen as one of the most credible and respected members of the party capable of calling everyone to order.

Dickson was said to have met alone with Babangida in his private study.

Recently, IBB predicted that the PDP will not only take back power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but go ahead and rule for 60 successive years, if the schisms rocking the party were solved. He alluded to the widespread status of the PDP as the only party with nationwide grassroots representation.

He said, “if you go to the grassroots, the ordinary man will talk about PDP; that is the asset the party has and should use to spring back to reckoning. Already, it is accepted and known. All you have to do is work harder and try to convince the people back to your fold,” he told the PDP members who visited him.
