DSS Bows to Pressure, Release Detained Ekiti Lawmaker

Admin March 23, 2016

Musa Daura, DG DSSThe Department of State Services (DSS) has at last bowed to pressure from both Ekiti and the international community by effecting the release of a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Afolabi Akanni, who has been in its custody  since last week without a charge.

Akanni who was released in Abuja Tuesday evening has continued to maintain his innocence of any wrongdoing, stressing that he did not know the reason why he was being held by the security agency in the first place.

He was recently rumoured to have died in DSS custody prompting the state agents to parade him at  press conference. But Hon Akanni a that press conference was a totally distraught man, he was frail and looked harassed.

Mr. Akanni was arrested within the premises of the Assembly last week and moved to Abuja. No charge was preferred against him. The state governor, Ayo Fayose, who had been the strongest opposition and critic of the Buhari government has consistently berated the DSS for the incarceration of the lawmaker.
