Aminu Waziri Tambuwal,

The Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), on Saturday undertook a tour of projects executed by the Sokoto State Government.

The Editors had converged on the northwestern state for the 15th All Nigeria Editors’ Conference which commenced on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and will end on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Among projects visited was the Farfaru Diagnostic Centre which the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Malam Abubakar Muhammad, said was targeted at curbing medical tourism in the country.

“The project was awarded at a cost of over N 600 million. Its focus is to tackle certain medical conditions that could be handled within the country. The nation wants modern diagnostic centres to diagnose illness so as to ensure the right treatment. This centre will provide that service,” he said.

The editors also visited the Gonar Sidi Akibu Animal Insemination project famed for empowering farmers on animal breeding.

The Commissioner for Animal Health and Fishery Development, Prof. Abdulkadir Junaidu, who took them round the project, said that it was enhancing milk production and encouraging grazing reserve system.

At Gidan Salanke 500 Housing Estate, lands and housing commissioner Sirajo Gatawa, said that the housing estate consisted of 100 and 400 four and three bedroom duplexes, respectively.

According to him, each of the four bedroom duplexes cost N 19.2 million and will be sold to the public at N13.4 million.

He added that the three bedroom duplexes cost N 12.7 million each but would be sold to the public at N 6.9 million.

The NGE team led by its President, Mr Mustapha Isah, also visited the Tomb of Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo, Northern Nigeria Cement Company and the site of the ongoing Dangote Cement Company.

Other places visited by the editors included the Government Secondary School, Balle, Junior Secondary School, Sultan Bello, Rinji Sambo Area road project, Gagi water works and Tangaza water works.

Isah, who spoke with newsmen after the tour, commended Gov Aminu Tambuwal’s development strides aimed at improving the people’s living standard, and urged him to sustain the efforts. (NAN)
