Pastor Enoch Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has explained why he bears the title Pastor, and not Reverend, Bishop, Prophet, Doctor, Professor or any such prefixes.

Pastor Adeboye who prefaced his April Thanksgiving sermon with the theme – Waiting Without Wasting – with very strong political message to the church and the Nigerian government narrated how God showed him a vision after he had become General Overseer and was about to turn 40 years of age.

He said: “When I became General Overseer, there was a nameplate on my table bearing the name: Rev Dr E.A Adeboye; BSc (Ife), MSc (Lagos), PhD (Lagos); General Overseer. One day when I was about to turn 40, God paid me a visit. He showed me a vision. He showed me two graphs: One was head-up parabola (Like a hill), the other was head-down parabola (valley). At the end of the turning point of both graphs was the figure 40. He asked me which one do you want? I chose head-down parabola and He said you have chosen wisely. From now on, all these big titles have to go. You are called to be a Pastor.”

Adeboye said he chose the head-down parabola because in that vision, God gave him the grace to understand that the head-down was better than the head-up.

Adeboye urged Christians to take active part in partisan politics, stressing: “If witches are showing interest in politics, therefore Christians should too.”

The usually taciturn pastor said: “I am not a politician. I am not involved in partisan politics. Do not distract me from my assignment. I have never and will never tell you who to vote for. Whoever comes to me from any political party for prayers, I will pray for the person. My prayers for them will only be that the perfect will of God be done.”

Then he added: “If witches are showing interest in politics, therefore Christians should too.”

He charged Christians to ensure that they register to vote and to go out and vote and not sit down and  complain.

He said “You’re a Nigerian first before you became a Christian. It is your civic duty to register and vote.”

He said he does not vote because he does not want to be partisan because his Children in RCCG belong to different political parties and he cannot prefer one above the other.
