Enugu Rangers are Champions of Nigeria Professional Football League
The Flying Antelopes survived Oga Boys scare to win the Nigeria top-flight title for the first time in 32 years
Enugu RangersĀ have won the Nigeria Professional Football League title to cap a fairytale season, with Rivers Unitedās failure to beat Abia Warriors meaning the Flying Antelopes can no longer be caught.
Imama Amapakaboās men could have waited for the last game of the season against El Kanemi Warriors on October 2, but Rivers United were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation-threatened Abia Warriors, while Wikki Tourists lost 1-0 against Shooting Stars.
The Flying Antelopes lead closest challengers, Rivers United by three points but with superior goals difference, and it will be an impossible mission for Stanley Egumaās men to record a 5-0 away at Akwa United on the last dayā having in mind that they have struggled away from home this season.
Thus, the Flying Antelopes are now champions after Sundayās 2-1 victory against Ikorodu United at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
After a gloomy outing last season that saw them narrowly avoiding the drop, Enugu Rangers began the 2015/2016 campaign on a blistering form as they warning signal to opposing teams.
Enyimba, Ifeanyi Ubah FC and Kano Pillars ā considered the most likely title contenders ā all suffered inconsistent form to leave Rangers, Wikki Tourist and Rivers United to compete for the title. GOAL.COM
