July 14, 2025

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday a public holiday to honour former President Muhammadu Buhari.

‎This was announced in a statement by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Monday in Abuja.

‎According to the statement, a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session earlier scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed due to Buhari’s state funeral in Daura on the same day.‎

‎Onanuga said that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) will announce a new date for the FEC session after the funeral proceedings.

‎President Bola Tinubu had convened the session to honour Buhari’s invaluable contributions to the nation.‎

‎Buhari’s remains will arrive from London at noon on Tuesday for burial in his hometown, Daura, following Islamic rites.

‎The former President died on Sunday in a London hospital after a prolonged illness.‎

‎President Tinubu had declared a seven-day national mourning with flags flying at half-mast nationwide.

‎He also directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to London to condole with the family and bring the former President’s remains back home.
