Former SGF, Lawal, still in EFCC custody, to be quizzed today

Admin January 25, 2018

Barely 24 hours after former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of condoning corruption and the corrupt around him, the EFCC pounced on former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal. He is currently in the custody of the   Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The EFCC Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Samin Amaddin, confirmed this on Wednesday, stressing that the former SGF is cooperating with investigators and has been making useful statements.

Mr lawal who spent Wednesday night at EFCC will be drilled further Thursday by investigators at the agency. Babachir was sacked reluctantly  by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 following allegations that he diverted aid funds intended for the humanitarian crisis in the North-east Nigeria. He was said to have awarded contracts to companies in which he has interest. A panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also indicted him after the Senate exposed the under-hand dealings he wrought in his position as SGF.

It was believed that the letter from Obasanjo to Buhari may have prompted the EFCC to act.
