Four years after, it’s death sentence for killers of Cynthia Osokugo

Admin March 23, 2017

After about four years and nine months, killers of Cynthia Osokogu, the Nasarawa State University postgraduate student murdered by her Facebook friends, Oliseloka  Ezike and Okumo Nwabufor, have been sentenced to death by hanging by a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere.

The late Miss Osokogu who hailed from Delta State was allegedly killed on July 22, 2012, at Cosmilla Hotel, Lakeview Estate, Festac Town, Lagos. She was lured to the hotel by a Facebook friend where she was allegedly molested, robbed and murdered by the man who had professed ‘love’ to her via Facebook.

Justice Olabisi Akinlade who found the accused guilty as charged by the state sentenced them to death for murder. The judge held that the circumstantial evidence brought by the state in proof of the six counts of conspiracy, murder and stealing against the accused persons were cogent, complete, unequivocal and compelling.

Justice Akinlade had on January 12, 2017, during the adoption of the final written addresses by all the counsels in the case fixed March 23, for judgment.  Anxiety had been high both within the judicial circle and among the families of the various parties.

The sluggish trek to justice took off on February 8, 2013, with the state calling the former receptionist at Cosmilla Suites and Hotel, Festac,  Lagos, Ifeyinwa Njebu,  who was on duty on the day of the incident as the first witness.

The two other accused persons including the pharmacist who sold the dangerous drug to the murderers  were discharged.
