The Africa Centre for Public Leadership (ACPL) has formally transitioned to the African Institute of Public Leadership (AIPL), marking a significant milestone in its evolution as a professional membership institute dedicated to advancing excellence in public leadership across Africa.

The transition reflects the growth, maturity, and expanding continental vision of the institution, which has over the years contributed to leadership development, professional engagement, and public leadership discourse through its programmes and professional community.

The new name, African Institute of Public Leadership (AIPL), more accurately reflects the Institute’s commitment to promoting professional standards, leadership excellence, ethical governance, institutional development, and public service across Africa and the global African community.

As part of this repositioning, AIPL has introduced a streamlined professional membership structure comprising:

  • Graduate Member (GAIPL)

  • Associate Member (AAIPL)

  • Professional Member (MAIPL)

  • Fellow (FAIPL)

  • Honorary Fellow (Hon. FAIPL)

These membership categories provide a structured pathway for emerging leaders, experienced professionals, and distinguished public leaders to engage in continuous professional development, networking, leadership advancement, and professional recognition.

AIPL remains committed to building a vibrant community of public leaders drawn from government, public service, civil society, academia, development organisations, business, and other sectors contributing to Africa’s development and institutional transformation.

The Institute wishes to emphasize that while its name has changed, its heritage, mission, and institutional legacy remain intact. The transition represents an elevation of status and scope rather than the creation of a new organisation.

The African Institute of Public Leadership continues to operate under the auspices and leadership oversight of FLED International Leadership Institute, a graduate leadership institution established in 1999 with extensive experience in leadership education, public policy, governance, and institutional development across Nigeria and Africa.

Looking ahead, AIPL will continue to expand its professional membership network, leadership development programmes, fellowship activities, research initiatives, and continental partnerships as it pursues its long-term vision of becoming Africa’s leading professional institute for public leadership.

Applications are now open for qualified individuals seeking admission into the Institute’s membership categories.
