Get your voter cards ready now, Green Party advises Nigerians

The Green Party of Nigeria (GNP) has advised Nigerians to get their INEC voter cards ready in preparation for the 2019 election general elections.

Mr Victor Chikwendu, its Deputy National Chairman, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Owerri.

He said that at no other time would Nigerians be more eager to exercise their franchise than in the next elections when it would be crucial and necessary.

Chikwendu called on all Nigerians to go out and register with INEC at the ongoing voter registration exercise in their different wards and centres.

He also advised Nigerians not to vote based on party basis, saying this had been the bane of politics in Nigeria.

The party chieftain said that rather, Nigerians should vote for credible individuals who had the future of the nation at heart.

He called on Nigerians not to repeat, what he called, the mistake of the past, but to vote wisely.

Chikwendu blamed the current hardship in some states on bad governance and the mistake of 2015.

“What most Nigerians are experiencing currently in some states are the consequences of their decision in 2015.

“ 2019 is at hand, if we decide to let the hardship continue, we have ourselves to blame,” he said.

Chikwendu said that for example, some of the promises made by some governors on industries, employment and education were still to be realised.

He also faulted the way most administrations handled the payment of retirees, stressing that someone who had served the state for 35 years should not have his gratuities, benefits or pension tampered with.

“Worker should not be crying over their salaries.

“The way forward is for everyone to go out and get a voter card and vote with conscience,” he said.
