Mr Chukwuemeka Nnaji, ex- President of Nigerian Union of Traders Association in Ghana (NUTAG), assures that Nigerians and their businesses remains intact amid viral social media posts on anti-Nigerian protests in Ghana.
Nnaji disclosed this in a telephone interview on Friday, stating that the viral social media reports have raised concern amongst Nigerians living in Ghana and abroad.
According to him, the misguided and misleading social media report was created to cause hatred between the people of Nigeria and Ghana.
Nnaji said, “The malicious and misguided post, which was hyped by some uninformed platforms, falsely alleged that Nigerians were solely responsible for some social ills in Ghana.
“We are all fine and there is no complaint or any adverse development anywhere in Ghana concerning any law-abiding Nigerian.
“There is no incident in Ghana against any Nigerian, the social media reports is just uninformed and misguided to mischievously create hatred between our people and our host country.
“The Government of Ghana has always stood on the path of justice, supporting and protecting all law-abiding residents.
“The Nigeria business community has a long outstanding and cordial relationship with Ghanaian government, and they have been closely working seamlessly with us.”
The former Nigerian community leader expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for taking proactive measures by delegating special envoy led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, to meet with Ghanaian officials for amicable resolution of the issue.
He also thanked the Ghanaian President John Mahama, for always rendering support to ensure the wellbeing of Nigerians living in Ghana.
This, according to him, required calm and no cause for alarm, as both Nigerian and Ghanaian governments are handling the situation, in the bid to further deepen mutual cooperation between the two countries.
“I am also calling on Nigerians, especially traders, to exhibit restraint; stay calm and avoid escalation of the purported anti-Nigerians protest in Ghana, and spread of misguided and non-existing issue on social media.
“Nigerians and Ghanaians must manage their citizens’ relations properly, not to see to the reoccurrence of the Aliens Repatriation Order in Ghana and the Ghana Must Go protests of 1983 in Nigeria,” Nnaji said.(NAN)
