AAU Governing Council
Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo on Tuesday inaugurated the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma Governing Council, charging them to restore the institution’s lost glory.
Speaking at the inauguration in Benin, Okpebholo said that education remained the bedrock of development, hence, AAU had a critical role in achieving the goal.
He urged the council members to restore the institution’s lost glory, work with dedication, vision, and responsibility, hence, the need for collective efforts to re-establish the university as a centre of academic excellence.
“Education is fundamental to development, and AAU holds a special place in Edo State, having produced some of Nigeria’s finest minds over the years.
“As part of efforts to revive AAU, my administration increased its monthly subvention from N41 million to N500 million, a major step towards sustainability.
“This bold move underscores our commitment to AAU’s revival.
“We also introduced special interventions to accelerate infrastructure development for students and staff,” Okpebholo said.
He highlighted his administration’s intervention in resolving challenges faced by over 100 medical students, ensuring their academic progress and future success.
“To the governing council members, this is your opportunity to leave a lasting impact. You were chosen because we trust your ability to restore AAU’s prestige.
“To the university community, management, staff, and students, be assured that this administration will continue to support you in every possible way,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Council Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, thanked the governor for giving them the opportunity to serve, pledging the council’s commitment to AAU’s development.
Orbih said that education was key to Edo State’s future, as AAU’s role in the state’s progress could not be over-emphasised.
“It is evident from your decisive actions that this administration is determined to restore AAU’s lost glory and reposition it for excellence,” he said.
The council members included Prof. Friday Okonofua, Prof. Steve Amiemenkharu, Mr Lukman Muhammad, Prof. Idialu Jeremiah Uwaifo, Prof. Eric Omogbai and Prof. Omoruyi Osahon.
Dignitaries at the event included Deputy Gov. Dennis Idahosa, the SSG, Mr Musa Ikhilor; Chief of Staff Gani Audu, and former Deputy Gov. Comrade Phillip Shaibu. (NAN)
