The Abia State Government has confirmed that gunmen attacked Gov. Alex Otti’s advance team in Imo, but explained d that the governor’s motorcade was not part of the movement.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ukoha Ukoha, made this known in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday.

Ukoha explained that the three-member advance team was heading for Sam Mbakwe Airport in the early hours of the day when their vehicle came under fire at the Umuowa–Ihite axis of Imo.

He said that the incident, which occurred shortly before the airport junction, left the officials shaken but unharmed.

He dismissed social media reports suggesting that Otti’s motorcade was targeted, adding that the governor was nowhere near the route at the time.

“In the early hours of today, Dec. 2, a three-member advance team from the Office of the Governor of Abia, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen.

“The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.

“The general public is hereby informed that the motorcade was not involved in this attack, and no life was lost during the unfortunate incident,” he stated.
