nestle products Operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) Ogun State Police Command headquarters have recorded further breakthrough in the theft case of N11.5 million Nestle products, after arresting a fake policeman, whose major assignment it was gathered, include the provision of security escort for stolen products.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye, who confirmed the recent arrest to our Correspondent in a telephone interview from Abeokuta, added that the arrest of the fake policeman was in furtherance of investigation into the N11.5 million theft case.

He added that the suspect was arrested following a tip from his prostitute girlfriend. “His prostitute girlfriend tipped us, after he had misunderstanding with her. He went to the hotel in which the girlfriend resides and she was not around, he decided to do a fast one with another prostitute, only for his normal girl to return and caught them pants-down.”

The State Police boss stated that, there was quarrel between both of them. “It was in the midst of the anger that he called off the relationship with her. But instead of forgetting the second girl also, he continue a relationship with her. That made his former girl to be angry and reported him and his atrocities to us.”

Police said, it would not relent on the case until all members of the gang have been arrested and brought to justice. It was gathered with the arrest of the fake policeman escort, two other members of the gang are still at large.

It would be recalled that Policemen had early last year intercepted of a truck, marked LND 182 XB (Lagos) loaded with Nestle PLC products worth N11. 5million at Ijoga Orile in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to Police, the suspects are allegedly responsible for the stolen items and diversion of the goods meant for customers of the company including those in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

It was gathered that the suspects had loaded the truck with the goods meant for a customer in Abuja before the duo planned to divert it to another destination in Lagos for sale.  Following a painstaking intelligence, it was gathered that the police detectives uncovered the plot and swiftly moved in where negotiation was entered on with the suspects, through the help of an informant.

It was further learnt that the suspects agreed to sell the goods at a give-away price of N3million only to the potential buyer (the police man) before they were eventually arrested at Ijoga Orile.

Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and gave the identities of the two suspects, as Idowu Jimoh, 42 years old, a resident of Kokale, Coca Cola Area of Otta, Ogun State and the truck driver, Emeka Godwin, 21 years old, a resident of Epe, Lagos State, who hails from Anocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The driver of the truck, it was said, had worked in a company in Otta before he was sacked for similar offence of stealing and diverting a truck loaded with some chemical products.

He is said to be married with two children, and has built a house from the proceeds of these dirty deals that he does.

Prior to diverting the goods, it was said, he had tactically removed the tracker installed on the truck before he even left the company for Abuja as scheduled so that the company would not be able to track the movement of the truck. However, Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, had earlier directed the Officer in-charge of SARS, to carry out a thorough investigation on the matter, with a view to tracking down other members of the syndicate involved or connected with the crime before the matter is charged to court.

Besides, it was said that the police boss seized the occasion to advise companies to always screen those they employ to work for them in a bid to avert similar cases and make sure they install tracking device on their vehicles unlike the type fixed on the truck in question that was removed by the driver before he even embarked on the trip to Abuja from the company in Otta.
