Integrity in Action: FRSC Ondo Returns N101,170 and Motorcycle to Families of Hit-and-Run Victims

In a poignant display of transparency and professional integrity, the Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially handed over recovered cash and a motorcycle to the families of two individuals killed in a hit-and-run accident.

The Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, performed the handover on Friday in Akure, returning N101,170 and a motorcycle to the grieving relatives.

The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of January 5, around 5:40 am, along Ijoka Road in Akure. The accident involved an unidentified articulated vehicle (Tipper) and a commercial motorcycle. Tragically, both the motorcyclist and his female passenger (pillion) lost their lives in the collision.

“Our rescue team arrived at the scene, transported the victims to the state hospital morgue, and meticulously recovered a motorcycle and the sum of N101,170 found on the passenger,” Dr. Ibitoye explained.

During the handover ceremony, the bike was returned to the brother and widow of the deceased rider, while the cash was handed over to the children of the deceased passenger.

Dr. Ibitoye noted that the gesture was intended to demonstrate the Corps’ core values to the public.

“The handover shows the nation the Corps’ transparency, integrity, and empathy. We are here to protect lives and properties; we ensure that even a single pin recovered at a crash scene remains intact for the rightful owners.”

The Sector Commander used the medium to urge motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles to exercise patience and empathy. He also advised motorcyclists and tricycle riders to avoid traveling during the dangerous pre-dawn hours, recommending they wait for daybreak before embarking on journeys.

The beneficiaries expressed deep relief and appreciation for the Corps’ honesty.

Miss Aderonke Akinyike, the daughter of the deceased passenger, confirmed the money was returned in full. “My mother was heading to the market when the accident happened. The money she had on her, exactly N101,170, has been given to me and my sister intact. I say a big thank you to the Road Safety for this good job.”

Similarly, Mr. Niyi Akinnajo and Mrs. Akinlade Funke, relatives of the deceased rider, applauded the Command for releasing the motorcycle to the family without demanding any fees.
