Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued two girls allegedly being taken to an Arab country for labour.

The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahideen Aminuddeen, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano.

Aminuddeen identified the suspect as a 25-year-old from Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa.

He said the rescued girls were Fatima Safiyanu, 23, from Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State, and Hasiya Haruna, 11, from Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa.

According to him, the suspect was arrested at a motor park in Kano while allegedly attempting to transport the victims outside the country for labour.

He said preliminary investigation by the board led to the transfer of the suspect and the victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Aminuddeen warned members of the public against engaging in human trafficking and other activities capable of endangering the lives and future of vulnerable persons.

He described child trafficking as a violation of the law that deprives children of education and exposes them to abuse and exploitation.

The deputy commander-general urged parents and guardians to protect their children from traffickers and report suspicious movements to security agencies. (NAN)
