Killings: Rivers APC Chairman wants Gov. Wike to improve on security

Admin January 8, 2018

January 8, 2018

Mr Device Ikanya, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, has advised Gov. Nysom Wike to improve on the security situation in the state or resign from office.

Ikanya gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Port Harcourt.

He said that it was the sole responsibility of every government to ensure the safety of lives and properties of its citizens and challenged the Rivers government to step up on its responsibility.

“The first duty of every government is protection of lives and properties of the residents; I call on the state government to be more sensitive to issues of security in the interest of our dear state,’’ he said.

He explained that on Jan. 1, 2018, unknown gunmen had in separate attacks invaded Omoku town in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area and killed 21 persons with several properties lost in the process.

In the same vein, unknown gunmen had invaded Ajakajak community in Andoni Local Government Area on Jan. 1, 2018, killing seven persons and properties destroyed too.

Ikanya condemned activities of hoodlums who from the first day in January have unleashed sorrow on residents in parts of the state.

Describing it as unfortunate, he noted that the mayhem was unleash during the period when residents were celebrating the end of 2017 and beginning of a New Year.

The party boss said that the incidents which claimed the lives of innocent citizens was a clear indication of high level insecurity in the state and called on relevant authorities to ensure security of lives and properties across the state.

Ikanya also called on the security agencies to build stronger measures to check recurrence and also ensure that the perpetrators of such ungodly acts were uncovered and appropriately punished.

He condoled with the families of those who lost their lives during the incident and sued for peace in the state.
