LAGESC ARRAIGNS CAPITAL OIL STAFF FOR OBSTRUCTING OPERATIVES ON LAWFUL DUTY

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has apprehended and arraigned some staff of Capital Oil Filling Station located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for obstructing the arrest of street traders.

Accirding to a statement by the State government, they attacked operatives and destroyed branded operational vehicles of the Agency discharging their lawful duties.

Speaking on the arrest, the Corps Marshal of the Agency, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd) said, “Our operatives on a routine raid of flash points for street and highway trading discovered a horde of street traders on the setbacks of Capital Oil on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and in the course of effecting their arrests, some staff of the filling station harbouring these traders attacked them, causing damage to our operational vehicles.

However, we were able to arrest 10 members of staff involved”.

Akinpelu added that the arrested suspects were subsequently arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrate Court on Friday, 25th of August, 2023 on a one-count charge bordering on obstruction and abetting street and highway trading.

She also revealed that the court granted bail to the 10 arraigned staff in the sum of N100,000 and sureties in like sum while the case was adjourned to Friday, 8th of September, 2023.

The Corps Marshal also issued warnings to private, public and commercial residences to desist from harbouring street traders and attacking the Agency’s operatives, just as she emphasised the dire consequences of such heinous acts which may include imprisonment.
