Lagos-Badagry Expressway: Eric Moore/Okoko service lanes ready for use from June – Official

Feb. 12, 2022

Lagos State Government says that motorists will be able to drive on the service lanes of the Lagos-Badagry expressway between Eric Moore and Okokomaiko from June this year.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs. Aramide Adeyoye, gave the assurance during inspection of the project on Saturday.

“By June motorists should be able to go from Eric Moore to a kilometre to Okokomaiko on the Badagry bound side.

“And on the Lagos bound side, they should be able to drive through the whole lot by June, on the service lanes.

“They will still be working on the inner lanes so at least the service lanes would be through to Okokomaiko while rounding up works on the inner lanes.

“What we would have left after would be the ancillary works like the park and ride stations, maybe hospitals, the BRT bus depot, the street lightings, all of the other road furniture, road markings that are incidental to the project.

“But by June, you can drive through almost to Okokomaiko, about less than a kilometre to Okokomaiko on the Badagry side, but on the Lagos side you can drive from that Okokomaiko straight to Eric Moore.,” She said.

Adeyoye said the ongoing massive casting on the round deck section of the Iyana-Iba flyover Interchange lasting 24 hours would consume 1,650 cubic metres of concrete.

She explained that the LASU/Iyana-Iba Bridge interchange would ease connectivity and decongest the highway.

“Once this deck is finished now and then the bridge is opened, people can actually come from the beginning and at various bridges at Akinwade, at Alakija, at this place (LASU/Iyana-Iba area). They can actually make their overpass and U turns as against going on the lower levels,” she said.

The Project Manager, CCECC, Mr. Ginger Yawou, while listing level of completion on various sections, said over 500 construction workers were working simultaneously in shifts to ensure speedy completion.

Some students from the Engineering Departments of the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Education who were brought on site to see the construction, shared their analysis on the quantum of construction with NAN.

Section One of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway project is being handled by the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).

The Lagos State Government engaged CCECC for the reconstruction and upgrading of the four lanes double carriageway into a 10 lanes double carriageway, with light rail alignment at the center from Eric Moore in Surulere to Okokomaiko.

For ease of execution, the project was divided into lots. Lot One extends from Eric Moore to Mazamaza, Lot two and three spans from Mazamaza to Okokomaiko (NAN)
