Lagos East bye-Elections: Police announces restriction of movement

The Lagos State Police Command has announced restriction of movement in five local government areas in Lagos East Senatorial District from 6a.m. to 6p.m. on Saturday.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the announcement in a statement on Friday.

He said the restriction was to enable hitch-free conduct of the Lagos East Senatorial and Kosofe II State Constituency by-elections scheduled to hold in the affected areas.

The police spokesman listed the local government areas as Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Somolu and Ikorodu.

Adejobi said that the command had deployed reasonable number of police personnel and other security agents to cover and provide security at the 1,928 polling units in the areas.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, said that there will not be both vehicular and pedestrian movement in and out of the affected LGAs during the elections.

“Only those on election duties, essential services and accredited domestic and foreign election observers will be allowed movement,” Adejobi said.

According to him, Odumosu warned electorate and political gladiators to play the electoral game according to the rules and provisions of the Electoral Acts 2010.

“Odumosu also said that police aides or security agents will not be allowed to escort their principals or Very Important Personalities (VIPs) to polling units while the elections lasted.

“Any security aides violating this directive will be arrested and caused to face the full weight of the law,” Adejobi quoted the commissioner of police as saying.
The commissioner further assured the general public of adequate safety and smooth conduct of the elections in the affected areas. (NAN)
