The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) over the weekend arrested 71 miscreants in a dawn raid of black spots in Oshodi, just as it impounded 227 commercial motorcycles from riders plying prohibited routes.

Speaking on the operation, the Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Shola Jejeloye, stated that the raid was in compliance with the directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, to rid Oshodi of traffic robbers and miscreants who harass and dispossess motorists and commuters of their belongings.

The Chairman, who led the raid, said the team combed Oshodi-Oke, Oshodi-Under bridge, Toyota Area and Fatai Atere Way among other locations the axis where many ex-convicts, drug addicts and peddlers were arrested between the hours of 5am and 6am.

While informing that the suspects were taken to the Agency’s Headquarters in Oshodi where five persons were released after screening, Jejeloye stated that some of the suspects indicted for their notoriety and criminal conduct in the areas included Solomon Ebenezer (29), Toyin Shoboyejo (29), Chidebere Peter (29) and Demola Olowe (a.k.a FGN) all of whom were ex-convicts.

In a related development, the Chairman also revealed that the Lagos State Taskforce operatives have impounded 227 commercial motorcycles (popularly known as Okada) for plying restricted routes. The bikes were impounded in Ikeja Along, Ogba, Alaguntan, Abule Egba, Command, Gate and Ayobo.

He vowed that the Agency would intensify enforcement to complement the efforts of the Lagos Police Command in ridding the State of criminals, while also continuing with the clampdown on commercial motorcycles plying prohibited routes in Lagos.

Some of the motorists and passers-by, who witnessed the arrest of some of the miscreants, commended the Task Force for the clampdown, adding that they had made Oshodi inaccessible at dawn and night.
